VEGOUT: URBAN BEETS CAFE & JUICERY

A Best of Milwaukee winner, Urban Beets Café & Juicery is a premiere plant-based cafe with a full raw juice bar, breakfast, lunch, dinner menus and more recently, brunch! It was founded by a couple who stand by their core values of health and wellness, caring for animals, and protecting the environment. Jess was able to give us a little more insight on the brand, and share what they will be bringing to Veg Out Fest in March.

Tell me about Urban Beets Café & Juicery.
Urban Beets Cafe & Juicery was founded by a local couple out of their passion for healthy food and animal-based causes. The mission of Urban Beets is really about sharing healthy, flavorful food with the community to show how eating plant-based can benefit human health, animal welfare, and the environment. Our ultimate goal is to operate the cafe as a means to support the animal causes that we care about, and in the meantime we have incorporated our house fundraiser called Paws & Straws to highlight local animal welfare organizations throughout SE Wisconsin who do the daily work that we want to support, such as no-kill shelters and sanctuaries.

What range of goods do you sell?
Our menu offers a variety of items that can be enjoyed for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and we do our best to work with the seasons to keep things interesting. Almost all of our products we serve are made in house, and all are made with whole-food plant-based ingredients. We know there are a growing number of vegan food options out there, and we love that, but our focus is always health first when it comes to the food we serve in the cafe. Items like our burger patty to our cheese sauce to our chai are all made in house, with love, with ingredients that will truly nourish you and provide you with health benefits while also satisfying your desire for some familiar flavors. And you can’t forget about our made-to-order juices and smoothies or our full range of wine, beer, and sake beverages!

What are you bringing to Veg Out Fest?
We are bringing juice to sample, and we will also have a sweet and savory brunch option for munching on!

What are some of your most popular items?
Some fan favorites are the Poke Bowl or the Sweet Potato Buddha Bowl, or breakfast favorites like our Freebird Sammy. I think what is great about the menu at Urban Beets is that there is something for anyone, but it is also easy to get people to try something new that they might not have ever considered before.

What is your favorite thing to make?
I think it’s probably different for each member of our team, but I personally love plating a beautiful bowl – whether it’s a Golden Glow smoothie bowl or a savory Shawarma Bowl, they are all so colorful and each ingredient is highlighted in a way that really respects the ingredient and its purpose in the dish.

Any new products coming out soon you’d like to announce?
We recently began serving brunch in January, and we offer some healthy alternatives to familiar favorites like biscuits and gravy and french toast casserole, which has a distinct flavor that rotates weekly. It is exciting that we can offer something so rooted in our Milwaukee culture like brunch but with items that won’t leave you feeling heavy and tired – instead they are actually fueling you for the rest of your weekend!

Whether you are a vegetarian, vegan, or just a food lover, there is something here for you. With a company that puts health first, fresh ingredients, and made in-house, you cannot go wrong. Urban Beets has locations in both Milwaukee and Wauwatosa. Can’t make it to either spot? They offer delivery through Door Dash and Grub Hub! And don’t miss your chance to sample some juice at the third annual Veg Out Fest at the American Serb Hall on Saturday, March 21.
